why environmental costs aren’t included in the price of many products and services?
The true environmental costs are NEVER included in the price of products or services. What do I mean by TRUE, the cost of the loss of habitat to flora and fauna by Western agricultural practices, deforestation for meat production, the loss of livlihood and community, starvation in developing countries that produce cheap meats for a greedy western world instead of producing cereals to feed their own starving populations. The loss of wildlife habitat by urbanization, through transport systems and development for the Western Worlds overconsumption of resources. The true cost of child labour, on non living wages, of exploitation of others and the environment through illegal drug production. The true costs of the pollutants we produce, in air, water, sea, on the land.
The true costs of disposal, transportation, manufacture etc etc etc.
WHY? Imagine making a coat all by yourself from scratch. That means, raising the sheep for wool, animal husbandry, animal vetinary, producing the feed yourself by planting the crop, shearing the sheep, processing the wool, designing and constructing the coat. Now think about how much you would charge for that coat. We take short cuts with machinery, intensive farming, industrialization, and factory manufacture. THE TRUE COSTS are TRANSFERRED to the ENVIRONMENT. Stupidly mankind believes that nature gives her gifts free, this is untrue, we are depleting natural systems, polluting natural systems. Taking the natural system’s ability to heal itself away.
True Environmental Costs can not be included in the price of ANY product or service, because they are far, far too high.
